How to know which molecule will have the lowest amount of ions?
-
a question asks, 1) Which of the following 1moldm^-3 solutions will be the poorest conductor of electricity? a) HCl b) CH3COOH c) NaOH d)NaCl ______________________________________… how can you figure it out. i know that conductivity is reliable on the amount of mobile ions, thus meaning that the one which will have the least ions will be the weakest acid or base. so how would i rule out NaCl...is it because it's a salt so it won't form ions in an aqueous solution or...? i'm just a bit confused, can someone please explain this to me?.... thanks

Answer:
if all dissociated completely, the would all have 2 ions but... acetic acid is a weak acid and it will not dissociate completely HC2H3O2 --> H+ + C2H3O2- + HC2H3O2 the other 3, HCl = strong acid, NaOH = strong base, NaCl = strong electrolyte
