What is the effect of over-titration when trying to calculate molar concentration?
-
trying to standardize a sodium hydroxide solution, and added too much titrant to the analyte. what is the effect of over titration, the color of the indicator turned too dark, when i'm trying to calculate molar concentration of NaOH?? PLEASE HELP! thanks!!

Answer:
I will assume that you are titrating KHP with your NaOH to a phenolphthalein endpoint. If you use too much of the titrant (NaOH), since the moles of analyte (KHP) are set by weighing, the titrant would appear to be of lower concentration than reality. In plain English, your NaOH concentration would be low.
