How to do this chemistry problem with gases?

Help with chemistry problem(gases&pressure)?

  • Answer:

    Use the modified combined gas law: (P1V1 / n1T1) = (P2V2 / n2T2) You can cross out the V terms since the volume is constant. P1 = 1993 psi P2 = 633 psi n1 = moles Ar = (100 g Ar / 39.9 g Ar/mole) = 2.51 moles Ar n2 = ??? T1 = 14 C + 273 = 387 K T2 = 26 C + 273 = 399 K (P1 / n1T1) = (P2 / n2T2) n2 = n1T1P2 / P1T2) = (2.51)(387)(633) / (1993)(399) = 0.773 moles Ar 0.773 moles Ar x (39.9 g Ar / 1 mole Ar) = 30.9 g Ar

I'm guessing... The gas can't escape the cylinder, so it all the gas will remain in the cylinder; 100g of Argon gas. But that seems a bit too easy... They don't say anything about the volume...
