How do I calculate enthalpy of combustion?

How to calculate enthalpy of combustion for magnesium?

  • Given Information: Mass of Mg(s) is 0.31g Initial temperature of calorimeter contents 24.1 Final Temperature of calorimeter contents 36.8 The magnesium was added to 100.0ml of HCl(aq) Additional Info: Mass of MgO(s) is 1.22g Initial Temp of calorimeter contents 24.0 Final Temp of calorimeter contents is 31.9 First I needed to calculate the molar enthalpies of reaction for the reactions occuring in each. I came up with -601.6KJ/mol for each. Now I'm stuck on calculating the enthalpy of combustion for magnesium. Please Help! Thanks

  • Answer:

IM GUESSING its deltaH=mc deltaT And urtemperature is basicallyfinal temperature minus inital temperature. Nd ur M would be ur molar mass plugin the values and solve for molar enthalpy -hope ithelped
