Is this just growing pains or is something more serious?

Growing Pains or something else?

  • I'm a 17 year old male and I've been experiencing weird aches and pains for about a week now. I've been having aches in my legs, right now both of my knees are aching. Occasionally my thighs, calves, hands, or feet ache for a short period of time, and sometimes there is a mild stinging sensation that goes along with it. I've also been having aches in my chest, particularly on the right side, but sometimes switching to the left side, and sometimes going down into my arms as well. I am not experiencing any symptoms of a heart or lung problem (no dizziness, no difficulty breathing, etc) I am also undergoing physical therapy for my scoliosis, and it has gone from 50 degrees to 40 degrees in about 2 and a half months. None of these aches are severe, they're quite mild but they are irritating me a bit. Could this rapid change in my musculoskeletal system be the cause of these pains, or could it be something else?

  • Answer:

Growing pains don't exist. It doesn't hurt to grow. That's been a major old wives tale for quite some time. The pain is most likely from PT and the spine getting readjusted. You can get reffered pain as well as nerves that are getting pinched from re-adjustments. So it's most likely just from the PT. -Connor

Don't know. I had scoliosis when I was your age, 30+ and was advised to wear a brace. I didn't but didn't have any back pain. Now I'm 40 and wish I had worn the brace.
