Civil Engineering math?

Is civil engineering only for those who are really good in math?

  • Answer:

Being really good in math and being adequate are two different things. Once you get past the college math classes (you don't have to ace them to progress in engineering) you will find the complexity of the math much simplier. As an engineer you need to be proficient at basic math but there are many more aspects to engineering in terms of problem solving (not math problems.), communications, organization, people skills that are just as important if not more important. If you don't give it a try you will never know what you can do. None of the preliminary classes for an engineering degree will be wasted if you have to change to another discipline. I was just adequate in math but still got my degree and had a very successful 35 year engineering career.

Just about all engineering branches require a lot of math. Science IS math for the most part. Except fields that I don't consider real engineering, like maintenance engineer (janitor)
