What is the capacitance?

What is the change in capacitance for a diode?

  • What is the change in capacitance for a diode with cross-sectional area of 0.01cm^2, dielectric constant of 11.8 when a change in the applied voltage gives a depletion distance change from 1/2 micrometer to 1 micrometer? I figured this is a varactor diode or varicap, which ever name you prefer, or so I think but I can't find anything on how to calculate what its asking for.

  • Answer:

It's just the normal capacitance formula for a parallel plate capacitor albeit on a tinier scale i.e. C=εA/D Expect values in the range of a few picofarads maximum.
