Nevertheless Replies are:- Minimum Qualification for Entry 4) Educational prerequisite for admission to an engineering college leading to graduation in Mechanical Engineering (for that matter any branch of Engineering) is to be adequately knowledgable in science subjects (Physics, maths, and chemistry) . Students have to study the above subjects up to intermediate level (above high school level, but below graduation level). I think, in different countries there may be very little variations.. Work Schedule 3) It depends on what kind of job a person is in. 3i) If the mechanical engineer is a Product Sales Man, and selling engineering machineries, or services, than he will be doing lots of travelling, meeting people as per their schedule and convenience. These again depend. People may be on travel for 3 weeks in a month. It may be extremely varied, depending upon what kind of product and market-competitions etc. 3ii) If the mechanical engineer is in shop floor of batch producing industries (such as car manufacture, or pump manufacture or electrical equipment manufacture), and responsible for supervising manufacturing and fabrications activities, than may be the schedule time is 8 hrs per day in one of the two shifts( Morning to Evening) , but depending upon clients demand/ order booking he may have to do Night shifts also some times. 3iii) If the mechanical engineer is in a continuous production line industries, looking after supervision of production activities ( say in a Blast Furnace, or in a Power Plant, or in a Chemical Factory) than it would be 8 hrs shift working for 3 shifts The shifts will be changed according to duty roster. Some times it would be “Morning shift” may be “After-Noon Shift” or may be “Night Shift” 3iv) If the mechanical engineer is responsible for maintenance of equipment and machineries of the plant, then the person may need to be in shifts matching with the running schedule of the plant. 3v) If the mechanical engineer working in engineering office, then the person would be working for eight hrs form 9am/9.30am and for 8 hrs everyday 3vi) If the mechanical engineer is working at a construction site for constructing/building a plant and machineries, than he may mostly work for 8 hrs a day. General Type of Work 2) Mechanical engineers are considered to be trained in general aspects of engineering and machineries, and therefore they are deployed in all kinds of different areas, or given varied and different of responsibilities, ia) In continuous production plant, he may be responsible for its running of the plant. In that event he becomes responsible for every day running including, achieving the target of production, arranging the raw material, arranging the man power, dispatching the finished product, looking after ways for improvement in the efficient running of the plant etc. ib) A mechanical engineer may be responsible for looking after the maintenance of plant and machineries. In that event he has to arrange all equipment , spare part, etc Also all maintenance personnel would reports to him and he will be responsible for their work schedule.
