What do Mechanical Engineers actually do?

What do Bio-mechanical Engineers do!?!?

  • Answer:

They use the engineering knowledge to solve the medical problem. For example take the case of Titanium tooth implant. One need to design this tooth considering so many aspect viz. load carrying capability, toxicity, corrosion etc...the design is done by an engineer, but implanted by a doctor. Similarly bone replacement by metal structure...knee joint replacements etc... Even CFD simulation is used to see the effect of blockage inside a vein. some copy paste from the site http://www.jadavpur.edu/academics/school_of_bioscience_and_engineering.htm are also given here for your information "The principle areas of focus are biomaterials for orthopaedic, dental application, rehabilitation and medical instruments. Faculty research areas include biomechanics, tribology, artificial joints, tooth and bone implant design and also rehabs-aids and biomedical instrumentation, design and development."

try medical engineering on job search engine. it will give you some information on what they do. for the most part bio-mechanical engineers are involved in the materials aspect of the design project. Common topics are optics, and materials engineering, deformable bodies, and thermodynamics. good luck

Biomechanical Engineering is a subdiscipline of biomedical engineering[dubious – discuss] that applies principles of engineering mechanics to biological systems. It stems from the scientific discipline of biomechanics and usually uses the tools and approaches of mechanical engineering. Many cases are related to Biomedical engineering and Agricultural engineering That's why you keep getting information related to bio medical its linked in it own way

Maybe. 3.5 is on the low side for admission to med school. A lot will depend on how you do on the MCAT, how good your recommendations are, and whether or not you have any relevant work experience [e.g. working in a prof's lab]. Be aware that O-chem is a weeding-out course - if you don't do well in that, your odds of admission go way down.
