Is there Any way a common working man can get a patent on something he has designed and has working?

Yes, the cost of hiring a patent lawyer is really expensive. You could do these work yourself, go to http://www.uspto.gov/ to find the patent process. Be careful and be patient. There are two good patent search website: http://www.patsnap.com and http://www.google.com/patents, you could do your patent search at the two sites to make sure there is no same invention which has already been patented. Yes... yes there is. But please please please don't call one of those "Invention Help" numbers in the back of a magazine or on TV. If you do, you might as well toss your idea out. If it's a good idea, that can make money... it will be easy to get a patent on it. You just need to be smart about it.
