How do I become a Civil Engineer and Architect?
-
I'm 15 years old and a sophomore in high school and will be a junior next year. I want to become a civil engineer and architect as my career plan. Is it possible to become both? Please tell me EVERY SINGLE DETAIL that I need to know to become one and please tell me how long will it take me to become both together. How old will I be when I'm all done and how much money will cost? How much will I be making from both jobs when I start my career? Thank you :)

Answer:
You have to go to college and get a double major, it will take you 6-8 years may be more; or if you take summer classes may be a little less. The money that will cost depend in your high school grades, and the school where you are going. If you make good grades there is many scholarships that you can apply to. these scholarships will make the cost more affordable. there is loans that you can take too, and if your grades are really really good, you will probably wont have pay nothing or almost nothing , try to ask to your high school adviser, she will have answers and will point you in the right direction, when you finish your career, you are not going to be making to much because you are going to be an amateur. and there is chance that you are going to have to work for free in order to get experience, but in time your salary will go up, and you will be more requested. another thing!!! once in college you have to keep your grades up because if you don't the state will take your scholarships away until you get better grades, the important is not how many classes you pass but the quality that you pass them with. in college you are also going to find parties and girls and crazy friends, is okay to have fun, but you have to balance everything, there is times for fun and times for parties and girls, REMEMBER WHY ARE YOU THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE, and the most important thing. Do not forget these words because they are the key to success !!!!!! GET **** DONE !!!!!!!!!

It's possible to get a degree in both, but it's unlikely that you'd get a job doing both. Most companies would probably hire you as one or the other. If you really want to do both, it'll probably take 6-8 years depending on the courseload you take and whether you do a double major or 2 separate degrees (some schools let you do both, with different requirements). The cost depends on what school you go to and whether you get any scholarships or grants. Assuming you don't get any scholarships and you go to a public university and pay in-state tuition, it could be $60-160 thousand. At a private university or for out-of-state tuition at a public school it could be more than $300,000. One big issue with planning to get multiple degrees/double major is that a lot of large scholarships (the kind you'll need) will only pay for 4 years. I really wouldn't advise trying to do both. It's probably going to cost you a lot of money, and you won't get any more benefit than someone who just did one. There will be more job opportunities, but you're not going to be able to work 2 jobs and likely won't find a job where you do both. If you want to spend 6-8 years in school, pick one and get a Master's degree. At least with that you'll make more money to make it worth the extra effort.
