How to make a miniature wind turbine?

Most small dc motors will produce dc electricity if you turn the shaft with a propeller. The voltage is proportional to the RPM, so a LED will light at a reasonably low speed. Too fast will destroy the LED so don't go past normal LED brightness. A small fan from a junked computer will likely provide both the generator and the propeller. Possibly you can light a type 47 or 48 incandescentt bulb. The 48 is for 2 volts. Neil

I did this some time ago for one of my kids's science projects. Only we used a water wheel for hydroelectric, but the setup is the same except using a propeller in place of the wheel. I used a small 3v tape recorder motor hooked to the wheel and a red led as an indicator of the generated power. As the wheel (propeller) turns, the motor becomes a generator and lights the led.
