Environmental Management versus Ecological Engineering?

Engineering discipline with high emphasis on management?

• Hi I am currently majoring in Chemical Engineering, but I dont know if I am limiting my scope of industries to work for by choosing this major. That is why I am thinking of changing my major to Industrial Engineering. Is it true that IE is the field that is most related to management of people? Is it also true that IE offers you the most opportunity to go beyond the technical aspect of your industry and go right into managerial positions? Also I have heard this joke: Imaginary Engineer? Imagine me as your boss. Hilarious, but does it contain a grain of truth? Are Industrial Engineers supposed to become the bosses of the other engineers in a company? Also, I have noticed that Industrial engineering, along with civil engineering are the lowest paid of the engineering disciplines, according to the BLS. Are those numbers representing those Industrial Engineers who have not move up into management? Thanks in advance! Long answers with links preferred!

• Answer:

  You are not going to get a management job in any engineering field until you get your Professional Engineers license. You have to work as an engineer for 4 years before you even become elligible to take the tests to become registered. I have worked in the engineering field for many years and have never met an Industrial Engineer.
