Which Oriental DC Motor will work on my wind mill to generate power?
-
I am wanting to make a wind power generator. I found a great website http://www.mdpub.com/Wind_Turbine/ That tell how to make a wind power generator by using a permanent magnet DC motors Using this catalog http://www.orientalmotor.com/products/ac-dc-speed-motors/index.html?gclid=CJ_MuqygxqICFQLEsgodBX-O6g can someone please tell me which one of these DC Motors will best fit my needs. The wind power website says what you are looking for is a motor that is rated for high DC voltage, low rpms and high current. Steer away from low voltage and/or high rpm motors. You want a motor that will put out over 12 Volts at a fairly low rpm, and a useful level of current. So a motor rated for say 325 rpm at 30 Volts when used as a generator, could be expected to produce 12+ volts at some reasonably low rpm. Thank you for your help. If someone could list the product number for the DC Oriental Brand motor that will best work for me, I would appreciate it. Thanks

Answer:
Here's a post on Oriental Motor's forum on their website. Q: Can I use your motors to generate electricity? A: Yes, you can generate electricity by back driving our motors. However, we will not be able to provide some motor specifications that you may need for power generation. All we can suggest is that you use a high inductance permanent magnet motor since they are known to generate the most voltage. Our best candidates would be the SMK series low-speed synchronous motors, or the PK series step motors. Testing will be needed on your end to determine the best motor for you.

Try using a stepper motor. These have a reasonable output when used as a generator. Strip down an old printer, or computer hard drive and use the biggest one.
