What are the career options in instrumentation and control engineering?

Large power plants,oil refineries, fertilizer plants,manufacturing plants all requires automatic control system..Instrument engineers are to design, built and maintain these control systems.There are large number of oppertunities for an experienced Instrument engineer.

I like industrial automation. Make canned soup or roll some steel. In California, they are harvesting tomatoes with GPS, having planted them with GPS and thus knowing how the automatic picker should drive through the field. Make some semiconductors, or better, make a computer. The components now are too small to be handled by humans, so they are picked up by robot arms, place in position, and soldered all automatically.Hey, is that thing ticking?
