How do i know if my cell phone battery is completely fried?

I would like to know how to charge a 3.7v cell phone battery with a usb cord.?

  • I have a cell phone battery at 3.7v. I belive a usb output on a laptop is no more then 5v. I need to charge the cell phone battery with the usb cord but i need to do it safely. I need to make sure the battery will not over heat, but that it charges normal. This is a project for school I am not tech savy please include links to any parts that i may need or describe them the best you can thank you so much.

    Not sure there is such a thing. Way I do it is to put in the cell phone and use the charger for the phone. Problem is that li-ion batteries, as used in cell phones, need sensors built in to the battery. Be difficult to build a universal charger for every size cell and variation in the sensor. As usual, the cost tradeoffs would most likely make such a device uneconomical to produce which is most likely why we don't see them around.
