What can you do with a double major in International Relations and French?

Should i minor in spanish or french? which would go best with an international relations major?

  • heyy. so i'll be a freshman in college next year, and i need to start thinking about which courses to take. i'm currently taking upper level french, italian, russian, and spanish at my high school, and i really love each language and they all come so easily to me. i have no desire to become a foreign language teacher, but i definitely want a career having something to do with them. i'm pretty interested in majoring in international relations and minoring in a foreign language, but i don't know which one to choose. i figured spanish or french would make the most sense, and i'm equally passionate about both languages. also, should i double major spanish or french with international relations or just minor? thanks for answering :)

  • Answer:

Spanish because it is spoken in France, Almost all of South & Central America, and trust me many people in the southern United States ( Like Florida where I live. ) Spanish is probably the most useful. Also if you know French you can understand about 70% of what Italians are speaking. You are taking Italian and since the two are SO close it would be a good idea. Also I think Spanish speakers have a very easy time learning Portugese. Why don't you take both? I would suggest learning Italian and Spanish first since they go so well together. Both Italian, French and Spanish are all part of the Romance family so it will be easier to learn if you already speak one of them

If languages come easy to you, take both, or better still, find a language that's more of a challenge! Like russian or some other of the "critical languages"-list I also recommend you spend a week or two on Esperanto, just for relaxation :-) Oh, there is no such thing as "the" language of the EU, and spanish is widespread only in the americas.

If you have to choose between Spanish or French go with the Spanish. Traditional Latin is the root of all languages and Spanish is close to Latin so that would probably be the best choice for language. My opinion is alittle bias.... I don't like the French language and I know traditional Latin

Spanish for sure but it depends on where you want to go after your degree.
