How to train new employees who do not speak English?

  • I work for a company which recently hired a new employee however he does not speak English very well (practically not at all) and for our job an individual needs to speak English fluently. I am able to speak the language she speaks [ which is Russian ] somewhat, but I learned it much older even though my Father is Ukrainian...I learned the language older therefore it is not as great but I am still able to communicate etc. with someone. How can I go about training this individual because I necessarily do not want her to rely solely on someone speaking to her in Russian [because she would need to speak English and I feel she would not learn English if someone always speaks to her in Russian] so any possible ideas to successfully train her? Thanks 1. I am not a higher up in my company why would they hire someone is beyond me as I do not nor related to human resources what is their reasoning is beyond me. 2. Yes, Ukrainian is a different language from Russian HOWEVER since my Father is MUCH older he grew up speaking Russian ( many of my friends however do speak Ukrainian instead of Russian and sometimes both). FYI, I learned the language older due to the fact that I grew up speaking French (as my elder sister did) 3. Typos do exist (and considering I have been in management for quite sometimes it is very common for a company to hire individuals outside of the United States) lastly, not everyone grew up close minded.....

You worry too much for her. Training her in Russian, so you're sure she will understand. I am convinced that she knows she must learn English and I think she want to do it. I myself have started to work without talking. They gave me a chance. Everybody needs help. Good for so very nice people!

The employees can be trained in English by "Online Accent Spoken English" . This website has good material for beginners as well as for business enterprises etc... there is no need to hire new employees at all..

This story is pretty fishy. First of all, why in the world would "the company" hire someone who doesn't speak English; however, the job requires that "he" speaks English fluently? Second of all, how did "he" become a "she" later on in the story. Third of all, your father is Ukrainian, but you speak Russian somewhat? I know the languages have some similarities, but what gives? So, why is it your job to teach "her" English, really what gives?? If this is for real, have "the company" buy "her" Rosetta Stone in English and you in Russian.
