Who's eligible for a dual irish/british citizenship?

I have the German citizenship, yet I can't speak any German, how embarrassing is that!?

  • So, my grandmother is German... And thanks to her, my brother and I both got the German citizenship + passport... But we can't speak German! I mean... We can perfectly speak English and Spanish (Since Spanish is our mother Language, I'm from Uruguay.). Yet, we don't know how to speak German, how embarrassing is that?? Having the citizenship of a country whos language you can't speak! D: How could I pick up the language quickly and easily? I started French classes not too long ago, but had to drop out.

Indeed, Rosetta Stone is a great option. As a fellow Spanish speaker (soy de México) who also speaks English and some German, I can tell you that if you already speak English it's a great advantage. Think of it as trying to learn Italian or Portuguese (more so than French or Romanian, that are also Romance languages); it's another language, sure, but the origin is the same, as well as many rules. The structure is different, but it's not hard at all. Additionally, I can recommend the following website, which was written by Germans for hispanic people trying to learn their language: http://www.curso-de-aleman.de/ Mucha suerte en tu aprendizaje!

Rosetta stone is a good one but you can also check local colleges, online, for dummies books/dvds, and even your grandma could help a bit!

You should use Rosetta Stone. I used it for French and this year I'm using it for Hindi. It costs a bit but it's REALLY good. I find it kinda fun too. You could also put your facebook/tumbler/other sites you have to the german language. That helps you kind of keep it in your mind if you use the sites regularly. Edit: Also, if you have the money. You should visit Germany for a couple of weeks. Know some basic words...then staying there for a while you will pick up A LOT in a short amount of time! Just keep practicing when you get back home :)

try rosetta stone. or does your grandma speak german? she could help to teach you. my dad is from germany and his mother taught me a lot of what i know, but i also took a class.

www.livemocha.com or pimsleur.com Very simple lessons to learn a new language. the first is free but the second can be expensive.
