What jobs are typically suited for an english major?

$60k+ (Spanish/English) bilingual jobs?

  • I have been on a quest in changing careers and I would like to be able to utilize my bilingual skills. I am a college graduate with 2 degrees and professional experience. As I have been doing searches for bilingual jobs I have come across a few disappointing realities - most of the bilingual jobs are either for call centers or people with high school diplomas. -It appears that being an interpreter at a hospital or a court - 90% of the time only leads to temporary or freelance employment (seriously, people need to make a living) -The little Pharmaceutical or Medical Equipment Rep jobs there are - most of them are concentrated in Miami, FL; Dallas, TX or somewhere down south. The market never seems be good enough for bilinguals to find professional jobs in the midwest. A family member said to me, "As long as the the need for individuals needing bilingual assistance is focuses on those who contribute little to the economy ($9.00/hr paychecks) as oppose to those who who contribute a lot to the economy ($50/hr paychecks) you will not see a big demand on bilingual professional jobs in the US. Not sure I totally agree, but is there professional bilingual jobs in the US? If so where are they? Can I find them in Colorado Springs, Indianapolis, Raleigh, or Des Moines? How do you find them? Thanks again

English is being tought to most other nations children as a second language.... I dont have a real problem with teaching kids a second language its probably going to be needed, I would honestly start out like they did in the old days though, with Latin and German, two of the most common root languages.
