Answer 1: Both. It's unwise not to use emoticons. I know you think it's an oddly put answer, but although I am not exactly for talking through indirect communications (texting, Facebooking, etc.), I find that it is of extreme importance in today's society due to the adjustment of modern time's citizens to indirect communications. Answer 2: Well, I gotta say both... I mean, it's no fun talking to girls that don't put smileys ;) Hahaha but I think it's kinda wrong for a dude to send another guy a text saying "see you in practice bro:)" because it's just wrong haha. But girl to girl and guy to girl is okay! I hope my answer helped :) Conclusion: See the difference between the two answers? See, I found that about 93% of all communication is through body language. That includes tone, face, and actions. In texting, you lose 93% of communications! So, you are left with 7% of communications to direct a message to your friend. Both answers are completely perceptual, but this is what I feel: in answer 1, you might have read me as cocky, intellectual, fluent, old, and/or wise. In answer 2, I might have come off as an easy going, cool, friendly, and/or outgoing guy that would be cool to hand out with. I feel that the 7% can be improved by adding smileys. The 7% can be broken down into many subjects, but let's just say grammar, vocabulary, CAPITOL LETTERS, and smileys make a HUGE difference to the person reading it. I make sure I make the most of the 7% by controlling every aspect of my messages. Another example (my pet peeve): Texter #1: "Heyy! What's up girl:)" (notice the friendly, within-your-area-on-the-friend-scale mood) Texter #2: "Hey...nmu?" (Texter 1 is probably frustrated, in result the conversation goes absolutely NOWHERE and any interest towards texter #2 is ended) Example 2: Texter #1: "Hey" Texter #2: "Hey:)" (Smiley makes a hella lot of a difference) Texter #1: "whats up" (notice the grammar) Texter #2: "I've been better, I'm not feeling so good today..." (obviously a girl speaking, and girls being the hinters they are, she is wanting him to ask her what is the matter) Texter #1: "kool" (What a Shaq O'Neil sized $%*&. Conversation isn't furthered, girl probably wont talk to him any more...) Texter #3 @ #1: What the %^&* is wrong with you bro, that girl dug you. Just gtfo." In the final conclusion: The smiley face means the world to me. Don't overdose it, but just show the reader that you are smiling. People like to be acknowledged, and trust me that is a form of appreciation that you are talking to them. I could go on for days, all this calculus homework is restraining me from giving you the best Hoover Dam answer on Yahoo. I know so much about communications and impressions (the things that solve problems, land jobs for people, and create agreements), yet I know so little. I hope I didn't bore you to death....if you have ANY questions or need further explanations, just tell me if you select this answer as the best; I'll be glad to send you emails. I hope this helped, but most of all I hope you have an amazing day! :) -Monsieur Solomon
