How difficult will it be for me to learn Spanish?
-
I am now 16 years old. I used to speak Spanish fluently, and I learned it at the same time as English. Unfortunately, when I got older and had to go to school, I wasn't able to keep practicing my Spanish and I forgot it. That's right, I basically forgot how to speak an entire language. It's embarrassing. I am planning to take a college level Spanish class this spring and I am wondering how easy you think it will be for me. I know that this is a really broad and abstract question, considering you don't know me. More info: from 3rd-6th grade I took a mandatory Spanish class at my elementary school. It was a waste of time though because the teachers were constantly being replaced, the class didn't meet often enough, and I didn't care about learning at the time. I got almost nothing from three years of classes. (or at least that's what I think) When I started middle school, I was offered Spanish, French, Latin, and Chinese as possible foreign languages. I didn't choose Spanish because I considered (and still do) my overall Spanish experience to be a terrible defeat. Latin is dead and I was not interested in French, so I chose Chinese. I have taken Chinese since 7th grade and I am now in 10th grade and still doing well there, which leads me to conclude that I must be a naturally good learner when it comes to languages. (or something like that) I was offered to join the honors Chinese class at the beginning of next year but I had to decline due to my schedule. I do, however, plan to take the equivalent of a year's worth of Chinese over the summer in summer school so that I can catch up to the honors class and catch up to the honors track of classes for 11th grade, and I will finish in AP Chinese in my senior year. I've had brief experiences with Italian and German, but I decided to stop learning Italian until I have some Spanish back and then it will be easy. I learned some german phrases for a trip, and stopped afterwards. I do still pick up some new words every so often due to the music that I still listen to, though. So, that's basically all the background I can give. How do you guys think it will go?

i didn't speak a word of Spanish until i met my best friend, and my boyfriend 2 years ago. i'm fluent in the language now and it wasn't too hard. if you already knew it it should be pretty easy. once you start practising, you'll be suprised how fast it'll return to your memory.

Don't be silly. Everyone "forgets" a language they are not able to practice, but it is no defeat because it will be easy to get it back again with practice.
Just go for it...

It depends of if you are lazy or not, if you put on practice the spanish, you'll learn it quickly, and more quickly if you knew it. I speak spanish, but I know that it isn't so easy for the other people, and (I don't know why) the people said that the spanish is the most difficult language. Maybe the chinese is the most spoken language, but it isn't so much important because it is only spoke in China, so if you want to learn to speak that language, it should be that you'd like to go to China or that you find interesting that language. It depends of what do you want to do in your future or what is the most interesting for you, so I didn't learn Chinese. You mustn't to be embarrassed for have forgot the spanish, because it isn't easy when you have influence across the country with the english, it happens to many people because you learn the language that you more speak, and like you talk more at the school, and there they speak english, you learn it and forget the spanish. To learn better your spanish, talk it with someone who speak it, and if you have perseverance and trust, you'll find it. I have only 14, and although I don`t know very well the english or the german, (what I'm learning), I have trust and I know that I'll get it.
