What is the best way to learn French?

What is the best way to learn french?

  • Answer:

Immerse yourself in the language as much as you possibly can, and if you can afford to spend a year in France or some other French speaking country then do that. If you have never studied French before, I would suggest taking classes at your local community college, and supplement your studies by listening to music in French, watching French movies, listening to French radio, reading in French, keeping a journal in French. There is an abundance of resources that can help you learn the language and some of them are actually free. Some of the free resources that I think are good are: a podcast called Coffee Break French (which can be downloaded from itunes or from their website www.radiolingua.com), an immersion program called French In Action (which can be watched online at www.learner.org and click on the Foreign Language tab), and Katia and Kylie Mac Learn French (which can be listened at their website www.katiaandkyliemac.com or downloaded from itunes). I would recommend that you get yourself a French/English dictionary, a book of French verbs, and several grammar books, ones that explain French grammar and if you can find it, a book called English Grammar for Students of French, which will put the French grammar into context with English grammar. Just a few suggestions. Good luck in your studies.

Spend time with my family and I, it's what we speak most of the time.

Realistically, move to France. Hands down, you'll learn faster than from any other method.

Go live in France for a year.

well, you'll learn it faster if you've learned some Esperanto already. Other than that: take classes, read books (even comics) watch nice movies (with good subtitles in your first language in the beginning, in french when you've advanced) hang out with french-natives, listen to spoken books or radio, visit france/belgium/west-switzerland to pick grapes or work on an intentional community... maybe try the french Y!A... And alternate, that is, don't do the same thing for too long at a stretch

Take a gap year to France. Otherwise, attend French speaking classes, along with listening to french audiotapes when falling to sleep.

You can find a language partner for free and go in Polyglot Parties on this website: http://www.polyglotparty.com/ Or/and take some private online classes with native teachers on this other website: http://www.lingueo.com/our-trainings/languages-classical/french/start-restart-french.html
