What is the best way to learn French?

What is the best most effective way to learn French?

  • I am traveling to France in exactly one year. I am wondering what is the best way to learn French. I do not want to come off as an imbecile. I'm looking to learn it fluently, not just a few words and phrases. Any one have any suggestions? How is Rosetta Stone? I am willing to work hard, this is something I want to take seriously. Thank you!

  • Answer:

Rocket French is a much cheaper alternative to Rosetta Stone. Plus you get can extra bonuses to help you out while you travel, such as a French phrase ebook and an ecourse that goes through French grammar as well. You can check it out below.

Taking a class will definitely be helpful. You should also listen to French radio (you should be able to find a station online), and read articles and publications in French. You can start with children's literature if you're a beginner.

To memorize something, you must see/hear it 7 times. Rosetta Stone was GREAT for helping me learn Russian, so I hope it can work miracles for France!!!

Rosetta Stone is over-priced and over-hyped, and many users find it boring. Some better alternatives : http://www.omniglot.com/books/language/french.htm http://eurotalk.com/us/store/learn/french

From what I've heard Rosetta stone has the best results, from my experience language classes take very long and don't teach as effectively as they should.

If you would have had 4 years, I would have said it's more efficient to use the first one learning Esperanto. maybe you can do that on the side? As for the rest, like someone else already said: listen to radio, watch TV (with good subtitles), read (even comics or childrens' stuff) I don't have any experience with rosetta stone
