Can someone explain this quote to me?

This is a quote from a story I read in class the other day.. Can someone explain what it means?

  • "There is within me a knot of cruelty borne by the stram of lvoe. Much as blood sometimes bears the seed of our destruction, and at time, I was mean to Doodle." Doodle is the narrator's brother, so the person saying this quote is Doodle's older brother. Can someone please explain to me the meaning behind this quote.

I would guess the quote is "borne by the stream of love," yes? The person is saying that love and hate so often seem to happen at the same time and to the same target. He loves his brother, but just like our blood keeps us alive and yet sometimes carries germs that can kill us, his love and his cruelty come together. Does that help?
