At World of Discovery Summer Camp in Bayside, Queens NY we have plenty of activities to keep the children actively engaged. The activities will vary depending on the age of the children. For younger kids, it is important to cater to their attention span and keep activities short and sweet. I like to have what I call 'Junior Sports Circuit'. I set up a few stations and break the kids and counselors up into smaller groups. One group will take turns kicking a soccer ball into a net. Another group will take turns hitting a wiffle ball with a large plastic bat and run the bases, another group will play bean bag toss, another group makes a circle around a counselor and takes turns catching and throwing a soft football, Another group can have relay races. Then every 5 minutes you blow a whistle and move the kids to the next station. Older kids have more stamina. A good model for them is to spend some time on drills and skills in a way that is fun and interesting and then choose up teams and let them play a game. This works in soccer, baseball, football and basketball. Hope this helps!
