How does a basic microwave oven work?

How much work is done using a 500 watt microwave oven for 5 minutes?

  • Please help me, I really don't get physics cause my teacher doesen't teach us. 1.) How much work is done using a 500 watt microwave oven for 5 minutes??? Whats the formula for this equasion? 2.) An object weight 75 N is dropped from the top of a building and falls a distance of 28 m to the ground. How much work does gravity do on the object frm the time it is dropped to the time it hits the ground? Thanks

A first step to learning physics is to learn key definitions. In your case, the definition of work would be useful. Also learn some relationships; like power ~ energy X time the energy is used. With these you can derive whatever equations you need to work 1. In 2. you need the definitions of force and weight. Couple that with your understanding of what work is and you can do this problem as well.

1. W = P x T But first u gotta convert all of the units to S.I. units i.e. 5 mins = 5 x 60 = 300s W = 500 x 300 = 150000 J or 150 KJ 2. W = F x S ( Force x Distance ) W = 75 x 28 = ( do the math ) ( Weight is already given in N which is the S.I. unit of force & means that so much force will be required to lift the object directly )
