How to raise money for breast cancer?

How can I organize a breast cancer walk to raise money?

  • My Aunt has breast cancer, and I'd really really like to help! And not just help her, but help find a cure for everyone who has breast cancer! I really want to volunteer for a walk like Susan G Comen or the Avon walk! But I'm only 13, so they won't let me walk! So I'm trying to organize a walk that any one can walk in! But I don't necesarily know how to. So I have a couple questions! 1) How do I organize my walk? Imean I know I have to get people, but like what do I have to do to be able to actually have a running operation? 2) When I've raised the money who do I send it to? I mean what orgi Sorry I didn't finish the question! lol here's the rest! orginazation would be good to send it to? 3) What should be the minimal amount of money that people have to raise to walk? 4) Do you think that I could have this walk operational( I mean like the walk is going to take place on that day) by April 22? I ask that because it's the day after my Birthday and I'll be 15! =D Thanks for your time! Have a great day!

1) Call necessary people like the Cancer Council, they can send you a pack. Call the local council, organise a venue, (you could laps around ovals, I did that one year) for fundraisers they will suggest a place, or, your school principle- you could have your walk at the schools footy fields or something. Get your family to help you with all of this. I would also do the following -Write a list of things you need to do. -Write another list- How many teams, what needs to be bought or made (eg. sandwhiches, banner, hats, sheets with records) -Write a invite you can hand to people you know or want to come. Have a place where they can sign their name/team up for the walk. -Have a bucket for donations -Invite people to come along and have a picnic, music, bbq. 2) Send the money as a bank cheque or donation form with a note attached to the Cancer council saying what fundraiser it was. They have a BSB, Account No, who to write it out to on their website. http://www.cancer.org.au/Getinvolved/donate.htm

You don't need to walk in a breast cancer walk to support it. But I suppose if you're really serious, start organizing first. Where do you want the walk? What streets will you need to close down for the walk? How are you planning on getting the information out there and getting people to join? How much are you going to have people pay to walk? These are questions you need to start asking yourself. You'll need to talk to your township supervisor to work out closing the road. You'll have to pay to do this if you don't have any connections. You'll also need to buy all the tshirts and water bottles and other accessories you plan on selling. Start talking with the people in charge, your parents. Get a lot of people involved in putting this together. If you're serious, then you're gonna need a lot of time and work. These things take months to get rolling. But good luck if you do! I plan on walking in the August one this year :)
