Why does sex cause UTI's?

Im sexually active and in the pasted two months I have had multiple UTIs, two weeks ago i started having pain ?

  • during and after sex so me and my partner decided to stop. It's been a week since I've had sex but I'm still having vaginal pain. All of this started once I got on the nuva ring, could it be the cause? I have gotten treated for the UTIs, had a pelvic exam which shown no injuries, and tested negative for STIs. Any one known what could be wrong or something i can do to make the vaginal discomfort go away?

    I heard that you should pee after you have sex, it helps keep germs and prevents getting UTI's...I've had those before they really hurt! Sometimes drinking a lot of cranberry juice helps. But you might have a yeast infection, those can make it hurt when you have sex.

How long ago did you start having sex for the first time? I had a UTI last year, so i understand the discomfort, mine was actually cause by having to much sex! Not sure if thats your case, but have you read up on it? Is usually cause by an irritation on the uretha tube, which is why its so painful to piss D:
