Are there majors that are similar to Criminology?

Is there a major difference between criminology and forensics?

  • Im interested in applying for uta (university of texas arlington) but unfortunately they don't have majors in forensics. They suggested I try criminology with a minor in biology. But I'm not so sure on the criminology part. I'm interested in forensics or forensic anthropology...like maybe examining cadavers, crime scenes, analyzing trauma to the body. Im so confused, please help....what kind of majors/minors could i look into? Thanks.

  • Answer:

Criminology is the study of crime itself, not experiment based. Possibly look into forensic psychology, or criminal psychology, these can be related to forensics pretty well, such as serial killer profiling. It may add the element of not only getting evidence from a crime scene such as forensics would and doing experiments. But also an option to how the minds work from a criminals view.

Criminology is the basic study of crime and certain cases sometimes. Forensics is when you physically have to DO something to figure out the problem other than mentally thinking like for example if there is a lot of information given of a certain case you would ask a criminologist to determine the case but if a crime just happened since time is a factor and information must be gathered they would call in a forensic scientist to dust for fingerprints or take blood samples or do a search for dead bodies.
