My professor said my MLA thesis is not narrow enough??....?

I was to write an MLA research paper about "Disability within the Media", and for some reason my professor said it's to broad (Although it well written), and I should try to narrow down the topic. Ex, Media - disability in the newspaper, internet, documentary, books, advertisement, television, etc. So my question to you, yahoo answer, is: Why is "Disability within the media" too broad of a topic? ~_~. Here is my current thesis: A review of legislation, statistics, policy and practice I conducted to outline the conflicting issues that contribute to the currently widespread discrimination of people with significant disabilities in the United States and their access to expression within the media. Although many individuals with significant disabilities face discrimination on multiple levels, barriers to those with disabilities seem pervasive in most environments that people encounter. While some individuals with significant disabilities have been successful in establishing and maintaining intimate relationships, many continue to face isolation in the communities in which they live. This paper will outline the issues that surround and contribute to the discrimination of people depicted in media. Introduction The representation of Disability in the media in the last ten years is pretty much the same as it has always been: clichéd, stereotyped and archetypal. Discrimination is not new phenomenon. Though it is not really disability imagery that’s the problem, it is the Impairment imagery; imagery where disability is understood to be the impairment almost devoid of political significance of social construction. Impairment imagery abounds on all channels and in all media forms: television, film, radio and in print. If anything, impairment imagery is on the rise. So unless there are some ways to alter the intuition of mankind, discrimination will persist. As a result, different procedures and dynamics are implemented to aid those in need, and to enforce equality Thanks for your fee back.

Answer:
The best reply I can think of is that the term "media" is too broad. It includes newspapers, magazines, television, radio, the internet, social media, advertising, documentaries, books. Surely disability in television is different from disability in books. So, as your prof said, it's too broad. Pick one medium or two or three similar media and focus on them.

I think the problem is that it's such a wide topic you can only scratch the surface with so many areas within the paper. It's possible to write a paper on their social isolation alone. Or to write a paper on the discrimination they face. It's even possible to write a paper on the pervasiveness of the barriers they face, possibly even narrowing it down to barriers to jobs. All these can be written without ever even referring to the media. When you said media, I instantly thought of TV, but I don't see much related to media mentioned in your thesis. I agree with your professor; it's a good idea, but it needs to be more focused.
