(GRAMMAR) Where would I put the comma in this sentence AND should I use a colon/semicolon in this sentence?
-
“The Yellow Wallpaper”, a short story by American author Charlotte Perkins Gilman, is a fine example of feminist literature. Would the comma after "The Yellow Wallpaper" go inside or after the quotation marks? Is the comma rule different when you are referring to a short story? ALSO Would I use a colon or semi-colon in the following sentence? The two characters are portrayed in stereotypical feminist roles: the man is overbearing and shows little regard for his wife’s opinions while the wife is weak (physically and emotionally) and compliant.

Answer:
It depends where you are. US usage would be comma inside; UK outside as you've done. The second question: either. Personally I'd go for colon, and add a comma like this: The two characters are portrayed in stereotypical feminist roles: the man is overbearing and shows little regard for his wife’s opinions, while the wife is weak (physically and emotionally) and compliant.

The comma is correct, but there is a small error: "In the case of one or more candidates wishing to attend the interview on the same date and [at the same] time as me, I should be grateful if you would arrange a different time for me." You see, it would have been fine if the preposition "on" for "the same date" also worked for "time", but we need "at" for "time". So you have to repeat the "the same" for the "time" because it should start with a different preposition. I hope that wasn't too confusing of an explanation... EDIT: But the sentence would be better like this: "In the event that another candidate wishes to attend the interview when I am scheduled to, I should be grateful if you would arrange a different time for me."
