USPS lost a package, what should I do?

So I have a business on Amazon where I sell books. A lady bought a book and I sent it out. The lady 2 weeks after I sent the package said that she have not received the package. I told her to wait a couple of day. 3 weeks after I sent the package, I got a letter in the mail confirming that USPS lost the package!! I was like great. The lady sent me an email saying that she still haven't received the book. Since I had another book, I told her that I can send her another one. She said that she would like the other book. So I said that I would like to wait for USPS to return the charges to me. And she said that she didnt want to wait. She send that she wanted the book sent out soon, or she wants a refund. I told her I will give her a partial refund back, for shipping but not for the book itself. What would you do if you were in my situation? I'm afraid she might call her credit card company and complained that she never received the item and that the credit card company might give her money back. But can she do that? Will the credit card company be able to do that?

you should tell her that USPS lost her package and it is her fault since she didnt pay for insurance, (however you are liable if you dont offer any insurance).. if you dont have insurance, then she has the right to get full 100% refund in my opinion, since your company doesnt offer insurance for shipping.. sorry to say that, but if i were you i would just give her 100% refund, so you dont have to deal with any BS from the credit card company.. but thing is, im only 15, so i many have incorrect information. hope this leads you somewhere

I would refund the money back to the customer..... all of it. It is not her fault that they book went missing, and should receive her money back. I am also aware that it is not your fault, however, you are the business. This is a risk that you take. You have confirmation that the book was never delivered, so you know that the customer is not taking advantage of you. Return the money, and go after USPS for the amount of the book.
