Does Paypal convert currency when an echeque is sent, or when it is cleared?

I just sent someone in the US an echeque via Paypal (I'm in Australia) for $1100 US. It takes 3-5 days to clear. Paypal converted it to australian dollars ($1133 AUD) to show how much i needed to pay. This is the amount it states on my paypal account. If the australian dollar drops within the next 3-5 days, will Paypal withdraw more than $1133 from my account?

depend when you close the deal since this is like the currency market ...what i would suggest for future trading open Blue account That is all US dollar ..as i remember this is doable with most banks in Australia.. or get a check from your bank in US funds and then send it to pay pal but if US dollar goes down you lose that way ..too
