What would be the net pay for a salary of £20,000?

What is the difference between salary or hourly pay mean?

  • legal difference of a salary worker verses a hourly worker beyond the fact they are paid hourly. I was told their is no difference except not punching the clock. I disagree the salary pereson is paid a regular straight pay the same every two weeks or as the pay period is structured. I have worked as a salary staff for many years and the differance is vast, and not deducting your pay when a day is missed as salary you are still paid yoour salary?

  • Answer:

Simple, salaried person is paid a flat rate, no matter how many hours worked or not worked in any pay period..disadvantage, you aren't compensated for overtime hours above a normal work day or work week..advantage, if you miss a day or two from sickness or whatever, salary stays the same or should. My personal preference HOURLY

I think it depends on the company these days as to whether or not there is much of a difference - some hourly paid workers receive sick pay - but in the "old days" haha a salaried worker did have the advantage of not having $$ deducted for sick time, etc. My experience these days is that it's mostly management/long time employees who are offered salaries, and the higher turnover jobs are just paid hourly.
