What does the current ratio tell you about a company?

How can I tell Company A I'm no longer interested at this time, but keep the door open for the future?

  • So I applied to Company A and Company B. I held a slight preference for Company A (not that Company B was bad). However, Company B was much faster in the interview process and offered me a WRITTEN job offer with decent pay and benefits. Plus they are still small so lots of opportunities! The issue is, Company B didn't give me too much time to decide and the longer I wait, the greater the chance of losing the offer. Company A is still interviewing me (they seem interested, but there are still rounds of interviews left for me to screw up!) and I don't know how long it will take. I want to work for this company in the future, but I don't want to waste their time right now. Long story short is that I don't want to risk decline offer from Company B and not getting an offer from Company A (out of a dozen or so companies, these were the only two that gave me a chance!). So I am sticking with Company B and down the road if Company A still wants to expand, I'll consider them! Any suggestions on what I should say to Company A? I don't want to burn the bridges with them! Thank you!

  • Answer:

There is no way you Can Make company B wait for Company A to make a decision. Just Thank company A for considering you but their delay in making a decision has pushed you toward accepting another offer. Take the job with B and don't look back. What IFs can drive you crazy

If you have made up your mind, then try not to waste any more time before informing A. Honesty goes a long way. If you tell them that another job came and it is an opportunity you would like to follow up before the offer is withdrawn. Thank them for the interest but DON'T hint to them that they were wasting time. Try to keep it simple. Most companies know that candidates apply to many places at once so it is not a big deal. If you hint to A they are wasting time, you will burn a bridge or 2! They should be able to get to that point themselves. It is not fair that some companies take so long to decide. It also doesn't speak well for the company as even if you were to start working for them, what other things will they delay that will affect their employees negatively?
