Is the price of gold jewelry different than the price of gold bars?

  • I called a local gold buyer and he told me that the price per ounce for gold jewelry differs from the price per ounce for gold bars. I thought that it didn't really matter. I have pure 24 karat gold items and I thought I could get at least $1300 per ounce, the official price for gold per ounce. Is this wrong? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

    Price for gold bars is the standard. If you have equal weight of same karat, of gold jewelry, it should be worth the same. Usually more, because its for the visual appeals. But if you are reselling it to a store, expect to pay well below the standard price.
