What meant by EC conformity?
-
The CE marking as it is legally called since 1993 (per directive 93/68/EEC) (abbreviation of French: Conformit? Europ?enne, meaning "European Conformity"[1], formerly EC mark[2]) is a mandatory conformity mark for products placed on the market in the European Economic Area (EEA). With the CE marking on a product the manufacturer ensures that the product conforms with the essential requirements of the applicable EC directives I dont get the part "essential requirements of the applicable EC directives" Can anyone help? Please?

Answer:
Essential standards are the required ones. There is then a list of non-required standards, things that we want but can live without. Many times, if the essential requirements are going to be upgraded, the 'new' part(s) of the requirements will be nonessential to begin with, then will be changed to essential after awhile.

It's a Europe wide system of manufacturing standards, similar to British Standard approval and their kite mark. These standards usually relate to the safety of the object tested, such as washing machines not electrocuting the user or teddy bear eyes being attached well enough to stop babies from pulling them off and eating them.
