Is a medical billing job worth it?

Answer:
It's a great business to be in. Just do not get sucked into one of those programs that says they'll teach you and you pay them to do that. Do not fall for it. I am in a related business and meet these billers on the road a few times a year. They do just fine. Some work for themselves. But they normally learn by working for another firm.

Find out if there are any medical billing companies or businesses in your area already. The market may be saturated. Many clinics choose to hire the large medical billing companies. Anything is possible of course but there may not be any demand for your medical billing services. If you are really interested in medical billing and/or medical coding you may be able to get a job in one of the established medical billing companies. Why not find them in the phone book and go visit them to get an idea of what they do and what you would be doing. Then you'd need to get educated through an online or on campus medical billing program or courses. Make sure they are accredited by another company not one that they;ve created. Education can take a few months. Online schools start at about $700, but federal financing is available. Most companies expect you to come in as an certified medical specialist rather than train you. Hope this helps. Nurse Kindheart
