Want to Find Work-Exchange Programs in the US...?

Hey! I'm planning on traveling around the US next year. What I want to do is take part in a work-exchange program or volunteer program in each state that I travel through. Basically, I want to find organizations or companies that let you volunteer with them (for a short period of time, maybe 1 to 30 days in length) in exchange for free volunteer housing. This way I can see more of the US, while volunteering and saving money at the same time. Can anyone help me by suggesting places that have work-exchange or volunteer programs like this? It doesn't matter which state. Thanks!!

there is not going to be ONE all-encompassing organization that covers the whole country - YOU are going to have do ALL the legwork and make tons of phone calls, etc to every state to find out if ANY states offer such a program
