How to get sponsors for a pageant?

Is entering a pageant really worth the money?

  • So Im 15 and I just went to a pageant meeting yesterday for the state maryland Pageant show . If i get accepted(which im pretty confident about) it is 440 dollars, which I can hopefully collect from sponsors! My parents just think its a bunch of bogus, but i really want to do it ! I have the type of parents that wont pay for anything...! I have really big dreams in life of becoming a successful fashion designer! I can make clothes now, and im pretty familiar with business, my mom tells me to sell the stuff I make online but I haven't , I dont really know how lol ! Yesterday they kept saying stuff like that like ahh we can help u with your dreams blah blah blah,,...! Would this actually help me in any way ?? I feel like I will look stupid asking a bunch of business's for money...! I dont know If i should listen to my parents or not! They don't want to drive me or do anything-_-! Should I still try? Will this actualy help me or be worth it?

  • Answer:

I have been in a couple pageants and I'll be in a National pageant in July. Now some may say that pageants are superficial and fake, but from my own experience, you will not regret doing this pageant. Do not feel silly asking businesses for money, they would probably be proud to support you, if and only if you promise to work hard at it. I will not lie, pageantry is a big business and it's a tough world, it can get pricey with extra cost but you can also do a fundraiser for funds. My family is not extremely rich, but I work so hard to organize bake/garage sales! Your mom is right, listen to her and sell your items, possibly on ebay or amazon. You can google how to do that. Now pageantry is very big on fashion. Depending on the events in your pageant, it can tell you the number of outfits to wear. With the fashion industry comes modeling which is used EXTENSIVELY in pageants! Winning or at least doing well in a pageant can be something to put on a future resume! I'm fourteen years old and I can tell you that it is worth every minute and every dime, pageantry is a life where you can express yourself and become a talented, skilled, and graceful young lady! Good Luck! I hope you do well!

what does being IN a pageant have anything to do with being a fashion designer? $440 is probably just the entrance fee, plus the dress and shoes, travel costs, etc - which could probably wind up costing you $2000 total - for ONE pageant) and all for a very tiny chance at possibly winning something MAJOR waste of time and money - the $440 would be better spent buying a sewing machine and material and practice making clothing what are you waiting for? you WANT to be a designer, but you haven't even bothered trying to sell anything you have made? shouldn't that be your TOP priority to see if you even HAVE the talent to be successful in that field?
