Why is my Xbox 360 scratching my disk?

Xbox 360 .. should I buy a disk drive or a new console?

  • I bought a used xbox 360 about 2 weeks ago.. A few days ago it stared making a grinding sound when I would put a game in .. Well, yesterday I put a game in and it wouldn't read it.. it just said "Open Tray" .. I tried different games so it wasn't the game .. Well, my husband took the console apart and tried to clean the eye .. it didn't work so we looked online for some answers.. Well, he took it apart again and played a disk with the top off so we could see what was going on and it boiled down to it being the lazer not wanting to move up under the disk to read it.. so my husband pushed it up .. it's reading my disks now but it was like it was stuck .. and it's still making the grinding noise ... We only paid $135 for it from a guy so I am not really concerned about buying another one since I have the controllers, harddrive, and a few other things .. but I am just wanting other people's opinions on whether I should just go buy an arcade version from walmart since I have a harddrive already .. or could I get by with buying a disk drive for the console I have? .. if I could get by with buying a disk drive, where could I purchase one and what do I need to look for when buying one? Thank you in advance!

i have the same exact problem, what you can do is call 18004myxbox, and just follow the instructions they tell you , if it doesnt work, then you will need a new laser, when you call that # they give you a website, if you go there you can send it to them and they will replace it. but i recommend not trying to fix the laser yourself as it may result in more damage.
