Why am I getting so many invites to connect?

Why am I not getting the game/party invites my friend keeps sending me.?

Me and a friend were trying to play a game that we've been playing for the past 3 months now but last night he kept sending me invites and Id never get them. And when I cut my Xbox on and off, i had like 3 messages. Plus. when I send him the invites he it would always say he couldn't join. So, I know the problem is on my end, Any idea how I fix this? I had just bought a new HDtv last night and although I dont think its the reason we cant connect, it seems a little weird that the day I get the TV is the day we start having issues.
