How To Make Your Own Game?

I am interested in learning how to make a online game...?

• Now - google doesn't help at all, or at least, I am not sure what to be searching for? I want to make a game, well, to being learning how to make a game. Not just them simple hangman kinda games. An actual game, my idea of the game - to be able to be an animal, to live the life of that particular animal. Now, mind you, this wont be your particular three-dimensional high quality game. From a personal experience in gaming, I have found that the less time put into the graphics of the game, the more things the main character could do. So, my idea is to have a sorta comic book effect. For any of you who have played Okami, that is what my idea for the graphics are.   At my highschool we have SciVis abd Game Desgin and we use 3D Studio Max and Game Maker. They are pricey but very good programs.
