    nope, i have games that are 2 years old i play on my 360 without any scratch. there is probably dust in your 360 which in the process of reading the disk, it gets scratched. i use "Dust Off" to clean my 360.

yes sometimes its the lasers inside the xbox which cause the problem. If you do get a problem with your disk and it doesn't work properly then just take it down to your local game store and they will clean it for you for just £1.99. Hoped this helped.
