Xbox 360 played on Computer monitor help?
-
I am wanting to buy a computer monitor to hook up to my Xbox 360. I really only plan on hooking the 360, and my computer monitor up to the monitor. So I will be playing Xbox, and surfing the internet (Not at the same time) but I don't plan on watching tv on the monitor. My questions are these. 1) Are there any kind of special features I need to look for in the monitor to make sure it can do what I would like it to do. (Ports etc) 2) What extra cables and equipment do I need to get to be able to do this. (I have a regular 360 not a Elite, and my computer is a Compaq Presario SR1834NX) 3) Once everything is set up how easy would it be to switch between using the monitor for the Computer and using it for the 360. (Would it just be switching a switch, or would I have to plug, and unplug a bunch of stuff) 4) Even though I don't plan on using the monitor for tv, if I wanted to, what additional stuff would I need to get, and how difficult would it be to be able to use the monitor for this additional purpose? (I have a wireless internet connection with my desktop, and my internet and tv signal is from Time-Warner Cable. My tv signal is regular cable not Digital Cable.) 10 points for the best answer.

Get a VGA cable for the xbox and a VGA switch to go back and forth between the two.
if you have a special cable that will play xbox on the screen. I seen this before on a movie. I dont know if exsisted
1) Not really a special monitor that is needed. You'll need a video port (the blue female port) and maybe the RCA ports (Red, white). 2)You'll need the xbox monitor cable. Instead of a Red,Yellow,White wire it'll have the video port and red and white wire. Also, if you don't have a monitor with the red and white ports for sound you'll need to buy a audio converter which plugs the red and white to make a 3.5mm audio plug. 3)I don't know how to do this, I only have a monitor for my xbox and another for my computer. My friend has it to where he has a splitter or something and you would assign the key to "switch" to computer screen or xbox.
You need the : http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1093816410.1234378224@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccecadeghfhfehlcflgceggdhhmdgmj.0&page=Product&fm=2&sm=1&tm=2&sku=253721&category_oid= And then you can pretty much plug the 360 into the monitor, to watch tv, buy a tv, you would need a special box ( which i dont know where to get ) to connect it, and most monitors only come with 2 inputs anyway, the best monitor for performance and value for money at the minute is the samsung t220 http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/436241/?int=right_nav_tfts It doesnt come with speakers, but you can also purchase them off the same site, or even your local store most probably. Ive spent quite a while answering this and i think it is useful.
1) no theres not really any special features you need though if you go with a small 21" LCD TV** it will come with composite and component video ports and a vga port instead of just buying a monitor with a single VGA in a answers will be if you choose to go with a lcd tv b answers will be if you choose to use a monitor you already have 2a) well if you go with the opition im suggesting in question 1 no extras 2b) if not youll need at least the xbox 360 VGA cable ($40) a kvm switcher ($20-$50)** possibly a usb hub ($15) 3a)just the switching of the inputs 3b)not sure on how the kvm switch works but my guess is by a button or switch and if you skip out on the kvm it becomes more of a hassle because then you have to unplug the vga cords as you want to use them 4a) an LCD tv would solve all you problems for this 4b) a tv tuner card for your pc you should be good with regular cable)
