360 Controller wont connect to PC...?

I own a wireless Xbox 360 Controller. I did not purchase the PC adapter that you plug in to the USB port to pick up the wireless controller. However, I do own the Play and Charge Kit. So I plugged my controller into the USB port by way of that. I get the found new hardware jazz.. Well, I did a long time ago when I first tried this then gave up. But tonight I went and installed the driver updates from Microsoft.com and still nothing. I get the little connection thing but none of the quadrants light up on my PC. The Controller just flashes green, but never connects. And yes, it is all plugged up and connected. Just doesn't want to work.

you need to buy the adapter and you would have to use it wirelessly the upside of this is you can acess and control your xbox 360 files aswell
