How do I downgrade my psp firmware/software from 9.90 to 6.39?

I recently bought a psp 1001k off of Amazon.com and bought a couple games (Dissidia 012 and Final Fantasy IV The Complete Collection) while I was at it as well. However, whenever I go to play these the "Game Could Not Be Played" (or something like that) message pops up. I figured that I needed to upgrade the firmware, but whenever I tried to use the UMD to update a message saying that I already have the latest software 9.90. I would like to find out how to downgrade the firmware or software (whatever it is) and install the latest official update, but nobody gives step by step instructions to people who don't hack. Could somebody please give me a step by step walkthrough on how to downgrade my psp from 9.90 to 6.39?
