Help video game addiction ruined my life? D:?
-
Hey guys so in my sophmore year I became a huge video game addict, mainly StarCraft and StarCraft 2, I'm a senior now and I'm still a video game addict, its so nice to have a PC that support any game to date on max settings! anyways due to this video game addiction, I failed my sophmore and junior (10th, and 11th year) hard... like it was a straight rocket towards the ground.... I'm looking back now and I think my life is gone. due to the over flow of 10th graders I got only 2 classes for my senior year, and thats not nearly enough to graduate, so I was forced out of school (long story) what should I do? I barely know algebra... so I don't think going to college is even an option. maybe commit suicide? O_o? what should I do? I gotta get my life back on track......

Getting your life on track is about like getting a train on track. It won't be easy. Well the first step should be obvious. You need to stop playing video games. That means selling your systems, and your games. Getting yourself a decent laptop with an internal graphic card that can't run anything. If you have subscriptions to gaming magazines, cancel them. If you have accounts on gaming message boards, delete them. Second step, if you have friends who are gamers, let them know you plan on not playing games for awhile. This goes for friends that you played online with. It's not a secret you wish to break a gaming addiction. You don't have to say you're addicted. But just say you're on a game lent. You played a lot of games, and you wish to try life without them. Now that you've done that, we need to get your life on track. We need to find good, posititve things to replace the time you previously spent playing games. Let's start with getting an education for you. You won't graduate. You know that. You put yourself at a disadvantage, but we all do from time to time. Good news is, this is not the end of the world. Not by a long shot. What you need to do is get your courage up, march into your guidance councilor's office and tell him/her that you know you won't graduate, and it concerns you. See if they can offer assistance in getting a GED or sign you on for summer classes to make up for those lost credits. Let them help you make a plan. If they recommend tutoring, I say go for it. Once again, I repeat, you not graduating is not the end of the world. We just have to get you back on track is all. Second, you need to find good things to fill up your time. There are sports clubs avalible at collages, and most you don't even need to be a student to take advantage of. There's activities at the local YMCA. I recommend something you can do twice a week. Part of your recovery will be to go to those things regularly. Organized activities will keep you motivated.

There is a time and a place for video games weather your 2 or 92 but you lack discipline. Real life comes first, always. The people you love and the ones who love you will be all that's left at the end of ot all so don't neglect them. They will support and love you when you are having trouble in the trials you face. Your save files will corrupt, servers will be shut off and sequels will fail to get maid, but remember that all you really need is love. Nothing else.

Get your GED dude. And chill on the games while you are working on it. Once you have that all you need to worry about is finding a job and showing up to work. Plenty of us make it by with gaming addictions, you just have to prioritize life stuff first. Starcraft, really?

if you're serious, attend community college. if your grades are high enough after the first two years, you can transfer to a real one.

G.E.D. or community college then transfer to a good college after a while

Well, you're too young to consider suicide. No matter how bad your life is, you still have about 28-40 years before that becomes a viable option. Being forced out of school is bizarre, but it happened to a friend of mine (who was worse off that you with both video games AND drugs), and he was able to find certain educational programs that allowed him to get his actual high school diploma (not a GED), even though he was 20-something years old and not allowed to return to school. So you should probably contact local school system or commmunity colleges and ask about those sorts of programs. Even if you can't get a high school diploma, you can take classes to get a GED and then take community college offered classes to prepare for university. From what I can se about you, there are nopt yet any academic limitations that you can't overcome. The REAL problem is video game addiction. I suffer from that. When I was young, I loved the Nintendo. My dad threw it out the window and smashed it with a sledgehammer when he saw the debilitating effects it was having on me. I pretty much went cold turkey because I didn't have any systems from then on, but the desire to play never left me. Now, I make gaming an expensive habit. If I get a game, I play it, and then I destroy it once I finish, so I cannot get lost in it. I must always pay lots of money to buy more games when I want to play. Of course, I don't own a gaming system. This is for computer games, which tempt me eternally, for I must have a computer for my work. I am always tempted to play games. Sometimes I slip into dangerous, strange phases where I'll play online games like crazy, but I can tooth and claw my way out of it after a few weeks of no sleep and burning eyes form staring at the comp. Good luck, buddy. It's a tough fight, but you can always fight through it. Maybe you don't have to become the warped vg addict that I am. Maybe there's still hope. Throw away your Starcraft. Trust me, I play enough of it for the both of us, when i can afford it.
If you want to get your life back on track, suicide is like the complete wrong way to go. serious WTF? Suicide isnt the way to go, you really do have much to live for, even while it doesnt seem like it. So what you're gonna do. First. Close every tab on your browser except for this one. Second. Delete all shortcuts to games you have. Third. (specific to Starcraft) If you really do care, and have good friends, tell them, your BNET password and have them change it to something else. Only they should know the password so you can't log in EVER. Fourth. If you dont want to do number three, go edit your computer settings to log off automatically during specific times. what this does is it auto logs off your account between, lets say, 3-4 PM, and you cant log back in no matter what you do. Fifth. Clean your desk. Sixth. Pull out your homework and do it. If you have a reading, read the bastard until the pages burn. UNDERSTAND THE ****. Seventh. Take a deep breath. IF you followed all of my instructions, you will feel like you're chained and cant do anything. So now you can do work/study/etc. Eighth. If its really bad, tell your parents your cpu password and have them change it so you have to ask them to unlock it when you want to. YOU NEED TO GET YOUR LIFE ON TRACK. I KNOW WHAT I TYPE SOUNDS CRAZY AND ****. but if you really want to fix this up then you better start right this goddamn minute. you've already wasted 17/18 years, get this **** on the road. now. btw if you have a phone, throw it on your bed and dont touch it. do NOT listen to music. i repeat, DO NOT LISTEN TO MUSIC. And make sure you clean your room/table because have a clean area to work in has a better aura than working in a dirty area. Good Luck
