Why is my PS3 freezing during online gameplay?

• I've been having some issues with my PS3 freezing on me whenever I go to play Black Ops. I have the older version "Fat" PS3 80 gig. Really ever since I got my Black Ops disc I've been having problems with it. At first it would just occasionally freeze and I'd have to restart my PS3. Now it's gotten to the point where I can't even play multiplayer, zombies, or Campaign. I've tried other discs in my PS3 and it freezes at the same exact spot. I called the Playstation support line twice. The first time they told me to totally reset my PS3, which I did and still had the freezing problem. Next time I called I figured out that the PS3 isn't supposed to be in an enclosed spot, which it was in. They also told me to regularly clean and dust my PS3 which I didn't used to do. So I dusted, vacuumed, and ran the PS3's fans on high and still had the same freezing problem. The support person told me that the Disc reader could be damaged and it's unable to process the graphics, therefore the PS3 freezes. Black Ops is the only game this happens to though. It can't be the disc because I've tried other Black Ops discs and still had the same outcome. So here's my question: Is there anything else I can try that might be able to fix this problem? I would like to try and avoid the $100 fee for repairing my PS3 but it seems like that's what it's coming to. Thanks for you time and I'll award 10 points to the best answer in my eyes.
